Eugene Micklin (January 13, 2003)
Eugene Micklin died January 13, 2003 from cancer of the throat at the age of 77. He attended the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia (Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science) graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in June 1951. Mr. Micklin worked as a Bacteriologist at the Continental Distilling Corporation (Publicker Industries) in Philadelphia from 1951 to 1957.
In March, 1957 Mr Micklin was employed as a Microbiologist ll with the Public Health Laboratories of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health until December 1988. Mr Micklin’s specialty in the Health Department Laboratorieswas Enteric Microbiology. Mr. Micklin was an active member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Branch of the American Society of Microbiology as well as the National organization. He was a Registered Microbiologist and a Specialist Microbiologist with the National Registry of Microbiologists.
Mr. Micklin served in the Navy. After retirement Mr. Micklin enjoyed taking classes in Radio, Auto Mechanics, and Computers. He also took advanced classes at the Institute for Medical Research in Camden N.J. (Coriell Institute for Medical Research ) in Developmental Biology, Genetics, and Virology.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Carol, and two daughters , Arlene and Nancy, and a grandson Keith, and a granddaughter to be delivered shortly. Mr. Micklin was an excellent employee and a very good friend. He was extremely interested in Microbiology.
