Innate immune defense against intracellular bacterial pathogens

Sunny Shin, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Department of Microbiology and Immunology
University of Pennsylvania-Perelman School of Medicine

The Shin lab is interested in uncovering molecular and cellular mechanisms used by the host to defend itself against intracellular bacterial pathogens and how such pathogens evade or manipulate host defenses. They use Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of the severe pneumonia Legionnaires’ disease, as their primary model.
